What You Need To Know About The Motorola Milestone XT720

Posted by on August 31, 2010

Motorola has taken its original Milestone smartphone, ditched the slide out keyboard and some of the thickness and weight, and relaunched the feature-packed mobile as the Motorola Milestone XT720. Whilst there was nothing fundamentally wrong with the original Milestone, the market has moved on – keypads are out, and touchscreens are definitely in. So how does this new version of the Milestone compare with the other touchscreen smartphones?

The new Milestone was always going to look different to the original version, ditching the slide out keyboard has meant the new touchscreen version is slightly thinner and a little lighter – all of which counts in this market. Motorola also took the opportunity to make some other design tweaks, without straying too far from the original look, and the result is a phone that can look different depending on which side you view it from. But the end result is appealing if not stunning.

The rather unique look to the phone is designed it seems, to highlight its camera credentials, and well it might blow its own trumpet – the new Milestone comes with an incredible 8 megapixel camera. But it’s not just the fact that this is larger than any of the other Android smartphones on the market that’s impressive. You also get face detection, image stabilization and multi-shot features, not to mention hi definition video capture.

Using the increasingly popular Android operating system, the new Motorola Milestone XT720 gets the 2.1 version which works well with the various other features, and of course gives you access to thousand of apps via the Android Market. Other features are more than up to standard with the other phones in the market, and this release comes equipped with 3G, Bluetooth and WiFi connectivity, as well as GPS and an FM radio. If there is one thing that lets the new Motorola down, it’s the fact that all these features place a big demand on the smartphone’s technology, and while it copes okay, a faster processor would have been a noticeable improvement.

While the Motorola Milestone XT720 might find it hard to gain many converts from the likes of Apple, HTC and Google, it’s amazing 8 megapixel camera and a host of other features that give it respectable smartphone credentials, will win a lot of fans. It almost seems unfair to look at it as a revamped version of the original Milestone as the improvements have been considerable, and just what smartphone users have been looking for.
